The Three Sisters Cultural Centre will provide elevated art and cultural experiences during Ontario Culture Days this Fall. Held during Woolwich’s Taste the Countryside, Waterloo Region’s Octoberfest and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, programing will include celebrations for traditional, local and new cultures. The project is designed to showcase and celebrate the beauty and distinctiveness of the various people who are found in Waterloo Region. During the weekends between September 22 and October 15, Three Sisters will offer an array of events. Notably, the planned programing for September 30th, will be offered by Indigenous artists and community members. Activities will be participative, informative and entertaining, they include a Thanksgiving Address, an earing workshop, a drum circle and an art installation by Six Nations’ artist Adam Monture.
To celebrate the German heritage in this Region during Octoberfest we will offer workshops on baking apple strudel, how to brew beer and host an exhibition on German folk art and crafts. These weekends will also include culinary demonstrations showcasing the local chiefs and produce found in the area. As the lead up to the annual Kissing Bridge Art Tour, Three Sisters will invite local artists to provide workshops and demonstrations during these weekends as well. Three Sisters will provide the many visitors and residents of Waterloo Region to explore and learn about the diverse cultures in the area. Through idea exchange and understanding these activities will build pride of place, encourage explorations and spark economic spending.
