Weekday Workshop: Image Editing Using Lightroom (Class 1)
January 26 @ 12:00 am

Adobe Lightroom is a powerful tool, combining the most useful photo editing capabilities, and the ability to catalog, organize and search for images, into a single application. While it is always advisable to “get it right” in camera when creating images in the first place, Lightroom allows photographers to fix many mistakes made during image taking, enhance the image to better match the photographer’s artistic vision, and makes some tough shooting situations easier to handle via post-processing. In addition, many creative techniques for artistic expression can be done with relative ease using Lightroom.
This workshop offers many tools and tips that you can use to create images with impact, and express your artistic vision.
In this hands-on workshop, we’ll cover the following topics plus more:
- Basic adjustments – colour temperature, brightness, contrast, highlight, and shadow details, colour saturation
- Fixing camera-introduced image defects
- Image retouching
- Using masks for local adjustments
- Creative editing techniques
- Creating panoramic images
- Organizing images using Lightroom
- Preparing images for printing
- Understanding colour space and soft proofing
- Next step – introduction to more creative power using Adobe Photoshop
The techniques discussed in this workshop can be applied to all genres of photography, including but not limited to natural and urban landscape, garden photography and macro, family photography, and travel photography.
The workshop consists of two one-and-a-half-hour sessions.
Sample images will be provided for both in-class exercises and homework.
Target Audience
This workshop is for anybody 12 years old and above, who have been taking photos with any camera (DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, or smartphone).
This workshop is suitable for both photographers new to post-processing, and those who have some experience using Lightroom but wish to learn more. No prior experience with Adobe Lightroom is required.
Equipment
For the best learning experience, participants should bring their own laptop (PC or Mac) with sufficient processing power and free disk space, and have a recent version of Adobe Lightroom installed and activated. Adobe Lightroom is available as part of the Adobe Creative Clouds Photography Plan.
Participants are expected to have an understanding of the basic operation of their laptop.
Registration for this class closes March 1st and includes both classes.
Classes:
- March 8th (6PM – 7:30PM)
- March 22nd (6PM – 7:30PM)
